In this case study I shared my own experience in helping to build a company from scratch. We covered everything from the problem we were trying to solve, creating the right team to building out the product.

Title: Balancing market opportunities versus customer driven innovation

In this workshop I covered the topic of when it’s appropriate to build deeper functionality versus taking your product into a new market. I also covered the metrics a product manager should be evaluating when making this recommendation / decision.

2020: BYU Marriott School of Business (Guest lecturer with Rebecca Higgins)

Title: Product Pricing, Packaging and Marketing

This discussion was a fun one. Rebecca and I covered the topic of packaging and pricing for aspiring product managers. This included the reason why this is an important function for PMs and methods you can deploy to achieve the most success with adjusting packaging and pricing. We also covered Van Westendorp’s pricing model.

2018: Product Hive with Josh Tolman and Rebecca Higgins

Title: Advancing Your Product Career / Utah Product Report

In this talk Josh, Rebecca and I had just completed the first salary study of product managers and user experience designers and we were sharing our findings. We also included a panel of different product professionals to share their advice on how to grow a career in product.

2018: BYU Marriott School of Business (Guest lecturer with Josh Tolman)

Title: Product Pricing, Packaging and Marketing

The BYU Marriott School of Business invited Josh and I to share the basics of discovery/research with a class of aspiring product managers. Josh and I introduced various techniques to the class. We also did a live discovery session with one of the students as a demonstration of our techniques.

Tracking product metrics has been an rapidly evolving topic in product management, especially in the last 10 years. In this workshop, Josh and I covered the basics of what a PM should consider when tracking metrics and we shared some examples we were tracking at the time.
